Objective: To provide morphologic data for transnasal surgery in the pterygopalatine fossa by measuring the bony landmarks and dissecting corpses and vessel and nerve. methods: The walls and communicateing paths of the pterygopalatine fossa were observed in 20 dry skulls, meanwhile. Ten(twenty sides)skulls were fixed and their arteries were perfused with red lacteprene. The pterygopalatine fossa was exposed through them iddle sagittal section then dissected and observed under the operating microscope×6. To investigate the related surgical anatomy approaches of the maxillary sinus and pterygopalatine fossa and proride numeral data for it.Results: The pterygopalatine fossa shows along and narrow cleft.eight paths communicate with nasal cavity, pharynx orbit, infratemporal fossa and middle cranial fossa. The pterygopalatine segment of maxillary artery and accompanying vein, the maxillary nerve and sphenopalatine ganglion are the most important structures. There are two layers of tissue in the pterygopalatinefossa, They are never layer and vessel layer. Conclusion :1.The pterygopalatine fossa exhibited complicated microanatomy structures, abundan of blood vessel and nerves it is a great significance for us to be familiar with the microanatomy of pterygopalatine fossa in operation of the pterygopalatine fossa lesions.2.To deal with lesion ,the approach of maxillary sinus can de used .the cross point of the upper wall, the inner wall and the back wall can be thought as important landmark. 3.Safe scope could be acquired in endoscopic transanasal surgery in pterygopalatine fossa, vidian and foramen rotundum could be thought as an important landmark.
