A sustained release floating dosage was formulated according to the principle of Hydrodynamically Balanced System in an effort to increase the gastric retention time and to control drug release. In this article ,floating kinetics, swelling kinetics and water uptake kinetics of the floating tablet were examined. Aerated density, tapped density, compressibility and compacitibility of the hydoxyprolmethycellose from different sources were evaluated. The buoyancy of tablets was affected by strength of particles and preparing methods with single factor test method.Ultraviolet spectrophotometry (UV) was developed for in vitro assay of drug content and release of floating tablets of Trimebutine Maleate (TM )and Itopride Hydrochloride(IH). Solubility of TM and IH in simulated gastric liquid and simulated intestinal liquid was determined. Partition coefficient of TM and IH was determined respectively. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) detection was applied to quantify IH in dog plasma.
