PART ONEApplication of transpulmonary thermodilution and standard thermodilution method in patientsundergoing orthotopic liver transplantationOBJECTIVESThe transpulmonary thermodilution (TPTD) technique has been recently introduced and diffuse in clinical practice. As a "less-invasive" device, the pulse contour cardiac output (PiCCO) system, based on TPTD technique, measures intermittent cardiac output (CITP); and based on pulse contour method, monitors continuous cardiac output (PCCI) that is in accordance with cardiac output obtained with pulmonary artery catheter in different clinical settings. Moreover it allowes stroke volume index (SVI) and pulse pressure variation experimentally and clinically to validate fluid responsiveness index in mechanically controlled ventilated patients. The TPTD technique enabled an estimation of preload index such as intrathoracic blood volume index (ITBVI), global end-diastolic volume index (GEDVI) and "lung edema" index such as extra vascular lung water index (EVLW), pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI). Researches using this technology are usually limited in measuring EVLW and there are few studies concentrating on ITBV...
