Dkk1 is one of inhibitors of Wnt signal pathway and has function in embryonic head induction, In mammalian head induction,Dkk1 cooperates with noggin. In HeLa cells, Dkk1 could significantly decrease its growth in soft agar. After Dkk1 expressed, there is significant difference in statistics in tumor growth. In tumor, the lack of Dkk1 expression is required in tumorogenesis. Some researches indicate that Dkk1 is a gene of promoting apoptosis. It may play a important role in Wnt and p53 signal pathway. The other researches also indicate that the expression of Dkk1 is induced by cancer suppressive protein p53. Through antagonist Wnt signal pathway, Dkk1 protein contributes to tumor inhibition by p53. The expression of Dkk1 in colorectal carcinoma is vanished, maybe it act as a tumor inhibit gene in this tumor.
