Aim: Hyperinsulinaemia and Hyperglycemia is a distinct character of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Recently researches have demonstrate that they play a role in develepment of cardiac hapertrophy, and pioglitazone can inhibit this effect. But the mechanism is still unclear. Cardiotrophin-1 is a member of IL-6 famliy which can augment cardiac hypertrophy. So our study was designde to investigate the expression of cardiotrophin-1 in hypertrophic cardiac myocytes induced by high glucose and insulin in vitro, and the effect of pioglitazone on the expression of cardiotrophin-1.Methods: The neonatal rat cardiac myocytes were cultured and identified with immunolabeling.
