Objective (1)To study the distribution and the normal range of thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) among community population in Jiangsu Area. (2)To investigate the prevalence rate and epidemiologic characteristics of subclinical thyroid diseases and thyroid nodules amomg community population in Jiangsu Area. Methods (l)The residents who had lived for at least five years and aged more than 20 years old were sampled from five layers in urban and rural districts of Jiangsu by a stratified cluster sampling technique. Sera were sampled in 4935 subjects and B mode ultrasonography of thyroid was carried out in 5082 persons. (2)TSH, free triiodothyronine (fT3) and free thyroxin (fT4) were measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay. (3)Location size, amount boundary calcification of thyroid nodules were described by using 7.5-MHz/5mm transducer of thyroid ultrasonography. Results (l)The median of TSH was 1.91mIU/L in total population, and the level of TSH was significantly lower in male than in female. (2)The crude prevalence rate of subclinical hyperthyroidism was 1.71% in total population, the standardized rate was 1.72%, no significant difference was found between male and female and among the age groups; while the crude prevalence rate of subclinical hypothyroidism was 9.77%, the standardized rate was 8.49%, the rate was significantly lower in male than in female and...
