Coronary artery disease is one of the most incident and fateful diseases in the world. Epidemiologic survey indicated that the classic risk factors such as smoking, hyperlipemia, high-level low density lipoprotein, diabetes, adiposis and age can not explain all the clinical and epidemiologic feature of coronary heart disease. Recently, many studies has manifested that the development mechanism of CHD was closely associated with immune reaction produced by infection. Periodontal disease is the most common infectious diseases in human beings. It has been known that the main pathological mechanism of periodontal disease is the local and systemic immune reaction induced by bacteria. Large epidemiologic data also indicated that the incidence of poor oral hygiene and periodontitis in the patients of CHD and peripheral atherosclerosis were higher than average. The basal study has confirmed that interaction amonglipopolysaccharide——monocyte——cytokine ( prostaglandin E2, thromboxane A2,interleukin-1 β , tumor necrosis factor a ,etc) may be the biologic foundation of intercommunication between periodontitis and atherosclerosis. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to detect the concentration of main cytokines in different periodontal and CHD patients and also in animal models by using cell and molecule immunologic method. The results may provide evidence of the correlation between CHD and periodontal disease.METHODS1. Clinical research: Twenty-four CHD patients referred for diagnostic coronary angiography were assessed for periodontal disease. Twenty-four chronic periodontal disease patients and healthy cases passed the periodontal examination by the same physician were taken as controls respectly. All the cases were tested on the concentrations of 1L-1 β and TNF- α in serum through ABC-ELISA, moreover compared and analyzed the data according to different groups.
