| Opiate addiction is a kind of chronic brain disease which is harmful for psychological health and physical health of people. It's a serious medical problem and social problem. There are many bad effect of drug addiction on medical health, social safety and social economy. Today, there are some treatments on opiate addiction such as methadone-maintained treatment and so on. However, it is one of addicted medicines that methadone is harm for the function of memory and attention. At July, 2000, a new medical method was invented by the professor G and his comrades in Tang Du hospital of The Forth Military Medical University. They found bilateral nucleus accumbens ablation with stereotactic surgery for the treatment of opiate addiction. They also provide some psychological suggestions and guides which help patients to recover better and better. The functions of nucleus accumbens involve in many basic function such as study and memory, emotion and personality, etc. Some animals'experiments showed that some bad effects on them which underwent bilateral nucleus accumbens ablation with stereotactic surgery for the treatment of opiate addiction. At same time, medical apartment of our country called that all the people should think over and over about this operation. Therefore, it is very significance to investigate the influences of ablating the bilateral nucleus accumbens with stereotactic surgery on 55 opiate addicts'intelligence.Firstly, fifty-five opiate addicts were evaluated with Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(WAIS-RS) before and after ablating the nucleus accumbens with stereotactic surgery. Secondly, Clinical memory scale was used to investigate the effect of addicts by this operation.
