Expression Of Cox-2 In Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Of The Salivary Gland

Objective To research expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) Protein in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the parotid gland. To investigate the relation between expression of cox-2 and the clinicopathological characteristics. Methods The expressions of cox-2 were detected in 35 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma and 10 cases of normal parotid gland by immunchistochemistry. Results The positive expression rate of cox-2 was 63%(22/35) for adenoid cystic carcinoma ,0 for normal parotid gland,respectively.There was significant difference in the expression of cox-2 between nomal parotid gland and adenoid cystic carcinoma(P=0.0006) . The expression of cox-2 was relation to the different types of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the parotid gland(48%; 86% P=0.0337). There was no significant difference in expression of cox-2 in patients with TNM staging(P=0.4630). Conclusions Cox-2 may play important role in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the parotid gland and may act as the molecular target in the chemoprevention of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the parotid gland.
