| Objective: To assess and discuss the difference of quality of life(QOL) between laryngeal cancer patients after patients with total and partial laryngectomy in which the resection margins was 5mm~10mm using EORTC QLQ-C30/EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaire; study the difference of quality of life of different types and modus operations; analyze the related factors of postlaryngectomy QOL and assess initially the feasibility of applying the questionnaire in QOL research of laryngeal cancer patients in ChinaMethod: Using EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaire,a survery was conducted in 64 patients treated with total(21) or partial (43) laryngectomy for laryngeal cancer after operations in which the resection margins was 5mm~10mm. All patients were divided into two groups: total laryngectomy group and partial laryngectomy group. Results: The composite QOL scores of the partial laryngectomy group (81.82±15.18) is higher than total laryngectomy group(72.22±18.85) significantly (p<0.05); the former is better than the later in domains of sense, speech, social contaction, sticky saliva, coughing and feeling ill(P<0.05), but the former is inferior to than the later in domains of pain and swalling(P<0.05). For supraglottic cancer swallowing problems was obvious;for glottic, transglotticand, infraglottic cancer speech problems were obvious.Five factor are related to postlaryngectomy QOL including age, profession, modus operation, postoperation radiotherapy and postoperation time. Age, profession, modus operation, postoperation radiotherapy are risk factors , postoperation time is protection factor. Conclusions: QOL of the patients with partial laryngectomy in which the resection margins was 5mm~10mm is superior to those after total total laryngectomy in domains of sense, speech, social contaction, sticky saliva, coughing, feeling ill and overall QOL, inferior to those after total total laryngectomy in domains of pain, swallowing. Different types and modus operations of laryngeal cancer patients have different quality of life. EORTC QLQ-C30/EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaire may be suitable to be applied in QOL research of laryndeal cancer patients in China. |
