| This work is mainly based on the correlation between lung cancer and the marker VOCs in breath of lung cancer patients, healthy human, and other lung sick patients. Experiments based on foreign research reports about lung cancer and the marker VOCs are done by using solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and gas chromatography (GC) system. An electronic nose (e-Nose) combining surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor and capillary column is developed. The capillary column is used to separate VOCs according to their different retention time and surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor coating with polymer film is used to detect the qualities of those VOCs. The e-Nose detection and analysis system also contrast with the SPME-GC system.In this article, the lung cancer situation, breath detection method and feasibility of electronic nose system used for breath detection have been particularly introduced. We detect and analyse 27 lung cancer patients', 18 healthy humans' and 7 chronic bronchitis patients' breath by SPME-GC system. Basically, we completed make sure the marker VOCs in breath of lung cancer patients in our country.The design of e-Nose system includes sensor design, film coating design, hardware design, software design, and system design for future detection of marker VOCs in lung cancer breath.The software system consists of several modules including data processing, data communication, process control, data storage, etc. The data processing module uses several methods such as outlier detection and correction, digital filters, curve correction, character pick-up, pattern identification, etc. They are used to process the raw data and then store these results. The communication and process control between the instrument and the PC is based on serial port RS232.Finally, practical application of the e-Nose system was introduced and the experiments and analysis results for the characteristics evaluation of e-Nose system are given.As a result, pass above these work, we can detect the marker VOCs in breath of lung cancer patients by this e-Nose. We also can screen the lung cancer by the e-Nose and through the comparable with SPME-GC system. |
