Post-surgical adhesion formation, a common clinical phenomenon, can causesevere clinical complications. Occasionally, adhesions necessitate a second operationto remove the adhesion, which may in turn further aggravate the problem. So,preparing the new effective anti-adhesion materials is an important researchingsubject in modern surgical area.Chitosan(CS), a kind of natural macromolecule, has good biological compatibilitywith organ, tissue and cell etc. Because of its good biocompatibility, physicalproperties and particular physiological functions, CS has an effect on prevention ofpost-surgical adhesions. But CS can't be used widely to anti-adhesions because of itslong duration at the desired site in vivo. In order to accelerate its degradation, a kindof natural peptidoglycan macromolecule (MIJ) was introduced into the chitosan film.Meanwhile, a biocompatible macromolecule (JEC) was added to improve the surfacehydrophilicity of the composite films. After the exploring of the preparation method, chitosan(CS) and its composite filmswere prepared successfully by casting method, and characterized by FT-IR,X-raydiffraction, SEM, water absorption, measurements of mechanical properties, watercontact angle etc. Effect of MIJ and JEC on the protein absorption and absorption ofthe composite films in vitro was also investigated. The results showed that thestructure of the composite films was changed because of the strong interaction amongCS,MIJ and JEC in the composite films. When CS content is high, the result of SEMshowed that MIJ and JEC can better dispersed in the CS film and the composite filmshave very good compatibility. The physical properties test also proved that theproperties of the composite films can be improved to meet the demand of the practicalapplication through adjusting the ratio of the materials. The introduction of MIJ andJEC can improve distinctly the mechanical properties of the composite films. WhenCS content is 70wt%, changing the ratio of MIJ and JEC could reach an optimalproperty. The absorption experiment in vitro testified that the addition of MIJaccelerates the vitro absorption rate of the composite films. The results of proteinabsorption and cell cultivation test showed that the addition of JEC meliorates thesurface property of the composite films. As a kind of biomedical material, thecomposite films have good biocompatibility and can be widely used in theanti-adhesion field.
