Effect Of Melatonin On The Proliferation Of Human Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells In Vitro

Objective To investigate the effect of melatonin on proliferation of cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells(HRPECs),search for effective drug for the treatment of PVR,Methods Different concentration of melatonin (0,125,250,500 ng.L^-1) were added to HRPECs respectively ,after 72 h using MTT method at automatic enzyme labeling machine value of A were calculated at 540 nm and inhibition rate of retinal pigment epithelial(RPE)cells were measured by MTT.Result Melatonin at different concentration can inhibit RPE cells in dose dependent manner,in comparision of different concentration group with control group difference is highly significant(P<0.01).Conclusion Melatonin can effectively inhibits HRPECs growth in vitro ,and it might be a new candidiate drug of preventing for patients with proliferative vitreoretinopathy...
