Objective: We studied the expression and significance of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the hypoxia induced factor-2 (HIF-2) in benign and malignant adrenal pheochromocytomas. Methods: In our search, we investigated the expression of VEGF and HIF-2 in 11 normal adrenal gland, in 24 benign adrenal pheochromocytomas, and in 11 malignant pheochromocytomas by using immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization (ISH).Results: In our study ,we found that: in all normal adrenal glands, the expression of VEGF and HIF-2 were negative or doubtful positive;Interestingly, in all benign adrenal pheochromocytomas, the expressions were either negative or only weakly positive. But in all malignant pheochromocytomas had strong VEGF and HIF-2 reactivity. There is a great difference between the benign adrenal pheochromocytomas and the malignant pheochromocytomas(PVEGF <0.01; Phif-2<0.01). In the space comparison groups, the expressions all is negative. Conclusion: We found that mRNA and protein expressions of VEGF and HIF-2 were significantly higher in malignant pheochromocytomas tissue than in...
