Objective: This study was carried out to determine the isolation rate and serotyping of Ureaplasma urealyticum among healthy pregnant women at delivery and healthy newborns of their urogenital tract .To discuss its epidemiology in healthy population. Methods: 85 mothers and 124 babies were collected from obstetrics hospital room, including 37 mother and baby pairs. Swabs taken from cervix of the mother at their later duration of pregnancy and cunnus of their babies at birth were cultured by commercial Ureaplasma ureslyticum selective liquid medium. The positive cases were then clarified into biovars and serotypes by PCR method and restriction enzyme excision. The date was analyzed statisticly by SPSSIO.O statistical package.Result: 85 healthy pregnant women were screened and 55 cases were found to be positive by culture ,in 55 Uu positive cases ,51 were amplified and 4 were unamplified by PCR, the positive rate of Uu in healthy pregnant women was 60.00%.In 51 cases , 40 were Parvum biovar(78.43%),7 were Urealyticum biovar(13.73%), 4 were found to be mixture of two biovars (7.84%), .In Parvum biovar, serotype 1,6,3/14 were llcases(27.50%),10 cases (25.00%) ,14 cases (35.00%) respectively. The mixed isolations of these four serotypes were 5 cases(12.50%). 124 healthy babies were screened and 14 cases were found to be positive by culture , in 14 Uu positive cases ,13 were amplified and 1 were unamplified by PCR, the positive rate of Uu in healthy neonates was 10.48%.20.69% of infants were positive for Uu when they were borne per vaginal(12/58),and 1.52% of infants were positive when they were delivered by cesarean(l/66).The carriage rate of Uu between two groups has significant difference(x~2=12.09 P<0.01) .5.19% of male infants were positive for Uu(4/77),19.15% of female infants were positive for Uu(9/47), The isolation rate of Uu between the two groups has significant difference(x~2=6.055, P<0.05) .in 13 Uu positive cases ,9 were Parvum biovar(69.23%),3 were urealyticum biovar(23.08%), 1 were found to be mixture of two biovars (7.69%), .In Parvum biovar, serotype 1,6,3/14 were 2 cases,5 cases,l cases respectively. The mixed isolations of these four serotypes were 1 cases. In 37 mother and baby pairs, 20 were borne per vaginal, and 17 were delivered by cesarean.6 infants were positive for Uu by culture, all of them of were borne per vaginal, and their serotypes were coincidence with their mothers. Conclusion: Uu can be isolated from lower urogenital tracts of healthy pregnant women at their late duration of pregnancy and their healthy term delivery infants, and the isolation rate is 60.00% and 10.48% respectively. The isolation rate of Uu in neonates bom per vaginal is higher than that delivered by cesarean and higher in female infants than in male. The main isolation boivar is Parvum biovar. The serotype isolated from infants are coincidence with their mother, and Uu in infants may originally come from the mother's birth canal. Uu colonized in lower urogential tract maybe a common commensal organism.Postgraduate student: Liqian Liu( dermovenereology) Directed by Prof.Tongxin Shi...
