ObjectiveTo investigate the frequency of the Cys23Ser polymorphism in 5-HT2C receptor gene and the relationship between this polymorphism and the susceptibility to typical migraine (including migraine without aura and migraine with aura) in Chinese population. Material and methods121 migraineurs, including 84 patients of migraine without aura (16 men, 68 women) and 37 patients of migraine with aura (10 men, 27 women), and 120 controls (32 men, 88 women) were included in this study after informed consent. Clinical histories were carefully recorded. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood lymphocytes. The Cys23Ser polymorphism were examined by Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms(RFLPs) technique after PCR amplification. ResultsThe Cys23Ser polymorphism, which was resulted from a G68C transversion in exon 2 of 5-HT2C receptor gene, was only found in one healthy woman. It was not found in all the 121 migraineurs and the other 119 controls. ConclusionsOur finding suggests that the frequency of the Cys23Ser polymorphism in 5-HT2C receptor gene is about 4.15 ‰ in Chinese population. The gene might not be contributed to the susceptibility to typical migraine for Chinese.
