Background: In the beginning of this century, the American Heart Academy (AHA) and American Diabetes Academy (ADA) had realized the danger of diabetes mellitus towards cardiovascular system. As 60 to 80 percentage of T2DM sufferer died of cardiovascular diseases,AHA and ADA advocate joining hands to deal with that disease. About four years before, the project, named NCEP ATP III, was drawed off which diabetes was as danger as coronary heart disease. The complications of diabetes have always been highlighted by clinic doctors, and reducing the cardiovascular complication become the research focus curently. In the recent years, a lot of clinic and experimental researches have shown that atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammation. Insulin resistance accompanies with the increase of many inflammatory identifications and promoting inflammatory cell factors, such as C - response protein and vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1).These inflammatory factors are also present in atherosclerosis, so they are the vinculum between insulin resistance and atherosclerosis. Resistin, as a new secretory product of adipocytes, become a new research subject. We studied the correlation of resistin and atherosclerosis. We want to know whether the resistin is an identification of the cardiovascular disease and whether it could predict the aggravation of diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Objective: To explore the association between the level of resistin in serum and the severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis through coronary angiography. Methods: We randomly collect some hospitalized patients with dubious CHD in the TEDA International cardiovascular hospital from September to December, 2005. All the patients were performed coronary angiography (CAG) by the transfemoral approach of the Judkins technique. We examined the fasting serum resistin by ELISA. The concentration of fasting insulin was assayed by chromogenic method, while the glucose concentration was measured by glucose oxidase test. Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS 12.0.Results:1. The level of resistin in serum of the AS group is significantly higher than the control' s. The patients of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoker of the AS group are dividely higher than the control' s. The HDLC level of the AS group is higher than the control' s.All the differences have statistical significant.2. AS the patients are grouped into four according to GS integral . Age and BMI among the groups have no signigficant differences. The level of resistin increases according to the GS integral. The levels of resistin of III and IV groups are higher than the control group' s significantly.3. Logistic correlation analysis demonstrated that the fasting serum resistin level is positively correlated with the extent of coronary artery stenosis , WHR and insulin resistance index.Conclusions:1. The level of resistin in serum of the AS group is significantly higher than the control' s. This result is consistent with the foreign reports.2. The level of the fasting serum resistin is positively correlated with the severity of atherosclerosis.3. The level of the fasting serum resistin is positively correlated with WHR, GS integral and insulin resistance index, howerver is not correlated with BP, blood fat, BMI and blood glucose. |
