Objective: To evaluate the visual ability and clinical application of the helical CT reprocessing technique to nasal cavity and nasal sinus diseases. Methods: 10 pioneers and 20 patients with suspected nasal diseases totaling 56 sides of nasal cavities were practised helical CT scanning and then the multiplanar reconstruction and CT Virtual endoscope through the soft ware, compared the results with nasal endoscopy and observation during surgery. It was statistically analyzed by Wilconxon W test and x~2 test. Results: The helical CT revealed not only the anatomical structure and the exact location of the disease, but also the anterior and middle cranial fossa and the airway from the different angles, sections and approaches. It could display clearly the normal anatomical structures of cavity, location and scope of nasal disease. The results were resemble to the findings in nasal endoscopic examination. It could also arrive at the nasal cavities which beyond the nasal endoscopic examination, such as the nasal cavity, the narrow grooves in the nasal passages and the distal site of the blocked area. Conclusion: The helical CT technique provided a noninvasive, new, economic and safe imageologic technique and it could retrievce the defections of the routine CT and nasal endoscopy. It was believed that the reasonable use of the CTVE and MPR combine with axial CT might increase the diagnostic information and improve the validity of diagnosis.
