To find an objective method that has sufficient correlation with the perceptual judgment in the description of the severity of hypernasality in the patients with cleft palate through speech spectroanalysis.1 experienced speech therapist and 2 lay dentists have made perceptual judgement of 57 audio records of cleft palate patients who had speech problems and went to the West China Stomatology Hospital for therapies. Their judgments were ranked as 0,1,2,3. And the same records were analyzed through spectroanalysis, the relative energy of low frequency RE_L were calculated in the LPC spectrum. Spearman correlation analysis were carried out to test if the 3 kinds of data have significant correlation.RE_L has significant correlation with professional judgments and lay judgments. And professional judgments and lay judgments has no significant differences. can be used as one kind of objective index to judge theseverity of hypemasality. And Spectroanalysis is one promising method to provide objective judgment of the speech.
