Objective: To study the levels and fluctuation rules of serums reproductive hormones, including testosterone(T) , follicle stimulating hormone(FSH) , luteotrophic hormone(LH), prolactin(PRL), progesterone(P)and estradiol(E2)in infertile men with varicocele and explore the endocrine mechanism of varicocele-induced infertility. Methods: The serum reproductive hormones(T, FSH, LH, PRL, P, E2)of infertile men with varicocele(Group A,45 cases) were detected by chemiluminescence immunoassay and compared with the levels of the fertile men(Group B,45 cases). Group B was similar to Group A at age, weight and stature. The rules of hormones fluctuation was analyzed. Results: The levels of serums T in Group A were lower(5.61 ±2.34ng/ml V.S 6.63 ± 1.84ng/ml, p=0.024), and FSH , LH were higher than those in Group B(FSH: 6.02±1.03IU/L V.S 5.38±1.10IU/L, p=0.005; LH: 6.70±1.11IU/L V.S 6.10±1.28IU/L, p=0.021), but all of them were in normal ranges. No statistical differences were found between two groups in PRL, P, E2.Conclusions: Infertile men with varicocele had lower levels of T, and higher levels of FSH and LH in serums. Decreased T levels suppressed the spermatogenesis, but increased FSH and LH levels could partly compensate it latently. |
