| Objectives: The aim of our work is to explore the role and significanceof estrogen and its receptors in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) and prostatic cancer(PC) as well as their possible clinical application by investigating the expression of estrogen receptor subtypes , ER α, ERβ in normal prostate (NP) , BPH and PC tissues, as well as in different grade of PC including WHO pathological, clinical and Gleason' s system. Methods: 146 of prostate specimens are paraffin embedded and confirmedby the pathological diagnosis, they are divided into three groups including NP 20 cases, BPH 80 cases, PC 46 cases. 46 of PC are further divided into various groups as following : (1) According to WHO pathological grade, PC are divided into three groups, 16 high grade, 15 moderate grade , 151ow grade; (2) According to Gleason' s criterion, PC are divided into five groups, 9 Gleason 1, 10 Gleason2, 10 Gleason3, 9 Gleason4, 8 Gleason 5;(3) According to clinical stage, PC are divided into four groups, 11A, 12B, 10C, 13D. Expression of ERα and ERβ is determined using immunohistochemical staining by monoclonal antibody against ER α and polyclonal antibody against ERβ.The results are used for qualitative identification. Results: ERα is only expressed in the stroma and low expression in NP,high expression in BPH, loss expression in PC, the differences are satastically significant (P<0.01). while within the specimens of PC group no signicant differences are noted among various WHO pathological grade,... |
