Xiaochengqi Decoction derived from 《 Treatise on exogenous febrile disease 》 ,Houpudahuang Decoction derived from 《 Medical treasures of the golden chamber》 .They are same in composition, including Rhubarb, Magnoliae Cortex, Immature Orange Fruit, but the different dosage. The analogues of the experiment according to the uniform design layout. A series of experiments were performed, including carbon propulsion in small intestine, black stool excretion, cough induced by ammonia liquor and phenol red secretion from trachea. Stepwise regression analysis was adopted to estimate the relationship between the pharmacological data and compatibility.This study reports the status of each medicinal ingredient and the interaction among them in prescription; it is not all like other studies which report the effect of medicinal ingredients or medicinal groups alone. This study provides new mode of explore compound compatibility. Uniform design is a kind of efficient fractional design, it can reflex the interaction among medicinal groups thoroughly compared with traditional studies.
