The bark of Periploca speium Bge.(Periploca Linn.) is traditional Chinese herbal medicine "bei-wujiapi", which is used on cardiac contractile function. Few people have studied the stem of P. sepium . In this thesis we summarized the chemical components and the medical function and the application of P. Linn. We also studied the chemical constituents systematically and did primary activity research of stem from P. sepium . Seven compounds (Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, Ⅵ, Ⅶ) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extraction and n-butanol extraction seperately by partitioning the ethanolic extraction from the stem of Periploca sepium Bge. between H2O and ethyl acetate by means of column chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, RP-18 and so on. Five of them were identified by chemical methods and by spectral analysis (IR,1 H NMR 13C NMR and EI MS), they are △5-pregnene-3β,17α,20α-triol-20-β-D-canaropyranoside(Ⅳ), sucrose(Ⅴ), periplogenin(Ⅵ), 3-oxo-urs-12-en-24-oic acid methyl ester(Ⅰ) and a cardiacglycoside(Ⅶ). We choosed Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Candiasp, Penicillium.sp, phytophora capsic, Fusarium oxysporium f.sp. Vasinfectum, Fusarium oxysporum Schl. f.sp. Niveum, Botrytis cinerea Pers .to do antibiosis test, the results showed petroleum extraction has high antimicrobial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli; Ethyl acetate extraction can restrain Penicillium.sp; n-butanol extraction has the function of inhibiting the growth of Candia.sp. Through bioactive experiments, we found that the petroleum extraction, ethyl acetate extraction and n-butanol extraction have strong antifeeding property to Mythimnaseparata, the average antifeeding rate is above 80%. The contact toxicity rate of 10 times dilution of extractions are 28.6%, 17.3% and 20.7%. Contact toxicity, stomach poison and antifeeding rates of compound Ⅵare 38.8 %, 35.7 %, 73.9%, so compound Ⅵis effective component in stems of Periploca speium.
