| Stroke is a type of cardiovascular disease that affects arteries leading to and within the brain. If a stroke occurs and blood flow cannot reach the region that controls a particular body function, that part of the body becomes impaired. The most common effect is the paralysis of the side of the body opposite to the damaged side of the brain. Studies show that for acute stroke survivors, 75% of the patients suffer from varying degrees of paralysis and require special stroke care. With the growing rate of stroke incidences, this experiment puts focus on the research of the illness' s treatment.Purpose: To evaluate and compare the effect of matrix scalp acupuncture (treatment group) and traditional scalp acupuncture (controlled group) in stroke patients, and to explore the curative mechanism of former method. Method: 30 qualified patients of the treatment group (matrix scalp acupuncture) and 30 of the controlled group (scalp acupuncture) were treated and observed. During the course of treatment, the following were monitored and evaluated statistically: clinical signs and symptoms, degree of body paralysis and speech problems, changes in blood lipid and hemorrheology. Results: The treatment group (matrix scalp acupuncture) had a total effective rate of 93. 33% and that of the controlled group (scalp acupuncture) was 83. 33%. The two groups showed statistical difference (p<0.05), which indicated that the .treatment group was more effective than the controlled group. This research also showed, with statistical significance, that the... |
