Tumor is the most principal enemy for human life and health. With the developmentof industry, agriculture and technology, tumor occurs increasedly year after year. Excision, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biology therapy are regularly adopted to treat cancers. Butthere are a lot of disadvantages of these treatments such as not to control cancerometastsisand to damage normal cells, tissues and organs. So finding other useful therapies thatinhibit carcinogenesis and cancerometastsis as well as has little side-effects are a desiderateresolve problem. Many researches pay more attentions to the cells' biological effectsyielded by electromagnetic field, lately. We investigated the effects of high-voltageelectrostatic fields on the cells' physiological function, such as growth, proliferation anddeath. Provide experimental evidences for tumor clinic therapy using high-voltageelectrostatic fields. Human liver cancer cells SMMC7721 and African green monkey nephritic cells Cos7were exposed to high-voltage prick electrostatic fields with different intensities, respectively. The trypanblue rejection method was used to take counts of the number ofliving cells and death ones and the growth curve was plotted. The multiplication time, growth rate and killing rate were calculated according to the growth curve. The MTTmethod and Flow cytometry were employed to test the proliferation and the mortality rateof tumor cells, respectively. The results showed that both growth and proliferation wereinhibited after exposed to high-voltage prick electrostatic fields. The growth curve showedthat the growth trends of every experimental group had significantly inhibited (P<0.05).The growth curves of experimental groups were much lower than the control group. Themultiplication time and cell cycle were prolonged significantly and the reproduce rate wasreduced. At last the proliferation was inhibited. In addition, the high-voltage prickelectrostatic field could kill tumor cells (P<0.05). The killing rate became higher andhigher with the increase of exposed times under HVPEF. From the pictures of Flowcytometry, we can know that the dead cell numbers of every experimental group weremuch more than the one of control group (P<0.01), the mortality rates of the 6kV and14kV groups increased to 122.4% and 173.7% comparing with control group, respectively. The relationships between the biological effects and the intensities of HVPEF werevibratory type. Different cells have different effects. To human neoplasm cells, all voltageswe selected could inhibit the proliferation. However, it showed positive and negativeeffects on the normal cells Cos7 treated by HVPEF. A certain intensity high-voltage prick electrostatic field can inhibit the growth andproliferation of tumor cells and has killing effects. The relationships between the cells'response to the electrostatic fields and the HVPEF intensities were vibratory type.Different cells exposed the same parameter electrostatic field had different effects.
