AIM: TO observe and compare the changes in mastication efficiency of pre-treatment and post-treatment with adult skeletal Angle III malocclusion, to analyze the effect of malocclusion for mastication efficiencyMETHODS: normal group, adult skeletal Angle III malocclusion befor orthodontic treatment group and adult skeletal Angle III malocclusion after treatment group were selected in the study,30 in each group, age 18-25.Masticatory efficiency was measured by means of a spectrophotometer using Gelatin. Meanwhile, malocclusal panttems was indentified in clinic All the data were treated with t-test and step wise-regression in statistics .RESULTS:(1)significant difference of masticatory efficiency was found among the groups (F=86.205,p<0.001). Multiple comparision showed significant difference among Group A> Group B Group C(P<0.05). (2)Sex, overjet and mandibular prognathism had significant effects on pre-treatment group . (3)molar ralation, TMD, extraction, the time of finish treatmentandsex had significant effects on post-treatment group.CONCLUSION: ?masticatory efficiency of adult skeletal Angle III malocclusion is reduced, (2)rthodontic therapy is necessary to improve masticatory function in malocclusion.
