| Objective: To evaluate the effect of microwave technique on the dimensional stability of different dental impression materials. Materials and methods: Different wattageand different irradiation time were used in a microwave oven and different cooperation complex were selected to disinfect additional type silicone rubbers condensation rubber and alginate impressions materials. Forty five plaster replication models for each kind of dental impression materials were made on the same metal master cast respectively, and were divided into 9 groups, one was control group, without any disinfection processes; four groups were put into 400ml distilled water, and were disinfected by microwave radiation set at 700W for 1 and 2 minutes, at 380W for 2 and 4 minutes; two groups were put into 400ml 0.5% bromogeramine solution, and were disinfected by microwave radiation set at 700W for 1 minutes, at 380W for 4minutes; and two groups were put into 400ml 0.5% chlorhexidine solution, and were disinfected by microwave radiation set at 700W for 1 minutes, at 380W for 4minutes. After treatments, impressions were poured, vertical and horizontal dimensions between landmarks on the plaster casts were measured with an microscope Result: â‘ The dimensional percentage changes of. the groups disinfected by microwave and distilled water were found: -0.338%~0.299% of condensation rubber groups; -0.413%~0.318% of additional type silicone rubber groups; -0.288%~0.303% of alginate impressions materials groups. â‘¡ The dimensional percentage changes of. the groups disinfected by microwave and 0.5% bromogeramine solution were found: -0.173%~0.390% of condensation rubber groups; -0.213%~0.361% of additional type silicone rubber groups; -0.300%~0.765% of alginate impressions materials groups. â‘¢The dimensional percentage changes of. the groups disinfected by... |
