Clinical Research On Interventional Therapy With Zedoary Turmeric Oil (ZTO) For Primary Liver Cancer

[background] Primary liver cancer (PLC) is malignant tumor primary at hepatocyte or epithelial cells of bile duct. We can detect the trace of PLC in the ancient literatures of TCM., it belongs to Guzhang (Cirrhosis ascites ), Ganji, Zhengjia, Jiju (abdominal mass ), Huangdan (jaundice), Xietong etc. It is highly malignant and prognosis is bad. It is showed by the data from the Ministry of Public Health in 1995 that PLC stands 44/100,000 of mortality rate taking the second place among all of malignant tumors. An earlier period operation is still the best treatment plan. However the majority of the patients with PLC are already in Middle-advanced stage when finally diagnosed or complicated by Cirrhosis of liver and miss their opportunity of resection. Since 1981 transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) was first put forward by Kato, the interventional therapy by liver artery in local cure is the head therapy of PLC missing opportunity of resection therapy .It is already extensively used for clinical, and the effect is accurate.Some achievements in study of treatment for PLC in TCM have been made in elementary and clinical study. It is very difficult to evaluate precisely the effect of mere TCM; and the effect of hepatic arterial infusion with Chinese herbs is similar to TACE. Therefore, to make further improvement of interventional therapy for PLC, the study of manufacturing high performance and low toxicity interventional agent especially effective component or compound agent of Chinese herbs has been thought even highly of.[objective] To observe and evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness for PLC by interventional therapy with ZTO Hope to find an effective project to obtain a long survival rate. Improving the effects of PLC, prolonging the survival time, and improving Quality-of-life (QOL) of PLC patients.[methods] Retrospective study 95 cases of middle-advanced stage PLC hospitalized in Guangdong provincial Hospital of TCM from May 1995 to December 2004.
