Objective: To study The Anti-inflammation, Anti-oxidation and Amelioration Effect on the Endothelium Function of Probucol in the Elderly Patients With Low Extremity Atherosclerosis Disease (LEASD) by observing the clinical symptom, measuring the ankle-arm index (AAI), detecting the plasma oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), endothelium function, inflammation parameters and blood lipid before and after treatment. Methods and materials: 54 patients who were hospitalized in PLA General Hospital from Nov. 2002 to Nov. 2003 were selected. All the patients achieved the diagnostic criteria of LEASD: (1) clinical symptoms and signs such as intermittent claudication; (2) AAI=0.85. All the patients were divided into two groups[treatment group: total 33 patients ( 29 males, 4 females), aged 78±5 years; control group: total 21 patients (18 males, 3 females), aged 79±6 years]. Patients in treatment group took probucol (0.5g, twice daily, p.o.) besides the routine anti-arteriosclerosis drugs. Patients in control group only took the routine anti-arteriosclerosis drugs. The total treatment phase was 12 weeks. All patients did not take any lipid-lowering drugs and other antioxidant. Before and after the treatment, we observed the clinical symptom, measured the AAI, detected the ox-LDL, endothelium...
