A Clinic Summary Of Reconstruction Plate Used In Mandibular Defect Restoration

Objective: To investigate the clinic results of mandibular reconstruction plates in restoration of mandibular defect. To explore the optimal method of such reparations. Making a summary of pre and post operation management. Method: 47 cases accepting mandibular defect restoration were retrospective reviewed. Information was collected by looking up medical records, telephone following up and clinic rechecking.1. Collecting case history for patients'age, gender, defect type, restorative procedure, post operation hospitalization days.2. Looking up the pathologic diagnosis, rereading the sections. To classify the primary diseases.3. Orthopantomography was ordered during clinic rechecking. Mouth functional index was recorded.Result: 4 in 47 cases got postoperative infection. 5 cases encountered serious soft tissue contraction, including later plate exposure in 2 cases. Other cases got satisfactory result without inflammation, screw loosing and plate breakage. 31 cases obtained normal mouth gape .All cases gained ideal occlusion except 8 cases, which overwent partial ramus resection. Most patients were satisfied with face contour and ate normal diet. Functional and esthetic results are as good as we expected.Conclusion: 1. Reconstruction plate results in good therapeutic efficacy inmandibular defect restoration.2. With the improvement of operation skills and the plate system, the mandibular reconstruction plates will be used more extensively in clinic therapy.
