Study On The Theory And Clinical Significance Of Facilitating The Stagnant Wood

Facilitating the stagnant wood which is first reported in Liuyuanzhengjidalun of Suwen, is one of the important therapeutic principles of TCM. The wood-stagnation is one of the five types of depression. According to the Endo-meridians, the five types of depression belong to the theory of the five evolutive phases and six climatic factors, that is to say the Qi of the five evolutive phases is controlled excessively, the retaliation of abnormal changes of climate will outburst. And in the field of medicine, the five types of depression are five kinds of depressive diseases caused by the retaliation of abnormal changes of climate. This is the origin of the theory of depressive disease of TCM. Because the Wood-stagnation has the primary influence on the paroxysm and recovery of depressive diseases, so it is necessary to make a further study of Facilitating the stagnant wood and bearing both the theoretical and practical importance. In this dissertation, we adopted the bibliographical researching methods to explore the original meaning and clinical significance of facilitating the stagnant wood In the part of the literature review, through analysing the clinical appliance of dispersing the depressed liver-energy and invigorating the spleen, one of the therapeutic methods of Facilitating the stagnant wood, we summarized the appliance situation in the clinic at present and confirmed the clinical value further. The dissertation is composed of three parts. The first part is tracing the source of the theory. Through compiling and analyzing ancient medical experts' statements relevant to facilitating the stagnant wood, we got the connotation and extentions of wood-stagnation and facilitation, and make description of the modern recognition of Facilitating the stagnant wood. To aim directly at the impercipient situation of Facilitating the stagnant wood today, we restate the importance and necessity of the theoretical research of Facilitating the stagnant wood. The documental investigation and conception analysis are significant theoretical bases of following study. The second part, which is based on tracing the source of the theory, is the research of clinical syndrome significance of Facilitating the stagnant wood. Taking wood-stagnation as the center, it is separated to diseases of wood-stagnation, treatments of wood-stagnation and medical records citing. The diseases of wood-stagnation are divided into three parts of etiopathogenesis and pathogenesis, development of pathology and analysis of syndrome. And the treatments of wood-stagnation, that is the concrete appliance of facilitating which are divided into two parts of therapeutical methods and decoction selection to discuss. The medical records are the additions to the contents aforementioned. Through the work above, we summarize the clinical presentations, pathogenesis, therapeutic principles and prescription of the theory of Facilitating the stagnant wood to serve the clinic better. The third part is the conclusion and discussion of this dissertation. Through the study of documental compiling and the analysis, classifying and collecting the historical documents of Facilitating the stagnant wood, we realize that the fundamental of the diseases of wood-stagnation is the stagnation of YANG QI in the interior, and its idiographic syndrome include Qi depression of liver, pathogenic fire derived from depression of live-QI, blood stagnation, QI depression of gallbladder, QI depression of liver and gallbladder, QI depression of liver and spleen, QI depression of liver and lung, stagnation of phlegm and QI, ect. The principle of treatment is facilitating the stagnant YANGQI. Different facilitating methods are used, namely, relieving liver-Qi used to treat liver depression, purging liver fire used to treat liver depression turning into fire, in-hibiting wood to assist earth used to deal with subjugation of the earth by wood, and relieving depressed liver and gallbladder used to treat damp-heat in the liver and gallbladder, and so on.
