Investigation Of GLUCOTROL XL~R Clinical Effect On Treating 146 Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of GLUCOTROL XLR on treating type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Methods 146 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus took 5mg GLUCOTROL XLR orally every day, 31 patients among them did not take any other medicine except GLUCOTROL XLR, while the residual patients took GLUCOTROL XLR together with metformin etc. FPG , 2hPG(100g Mantou) , HbA1c , TC , TG , LDL-C , HDL-C and Fasting serum insulin(FINS) were measured before treatment and after 12 week treatment. Results (1) The level of FPG decreased from 9.69±2.42 mmol/L before treatment to 7.15±1.66 mmol/L (p<0.05; 2hPG decreased from 12.56±4.09 mmol/L to 8.66±2.22 mmol/L (p<0.05; HbA1c decreased from 8.51±3.10% to 6.23±3.10% (p<0.05. (2) FINS were 13.66±7.13 mU/L and 10.22±5.08 mU/L in 31 cases who only took GLUCOTROL XLR before and after therapy, respectively. (p<0.05. (3) TC, TG and LDL-C were 5.59±1.06 mmol/L, 2.51±1.42 mmol/L and 3.18±0.60 mmol/L in 31 cases who only took GLUCOTROL XLR before treatment, respectively. After 12 weeks treatment they decreased to 5.05±0.81 mmol/L, 2.10±1.13 mmol/L and 2.93±0.55 mmol/L (p<0.05, respectively; But there was no significant difference between HDL-C before treatment (1.43±0.32 mmol/L) and after treatment (1.42±0.34. mmol/L). Conclusion GLUCOTROL XLR not only reduce the blood glucose definitely but also improve impaired fat metabolism and can't result in hypeinsulinemia in type 2 diabetes patients.
