PURPOSE To clarify the feature of gallbladder carcinoma at MRI and MRCP, and to access the ability of MRI combined with MRCP in diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma.MATERIALS and METHODS 34 patients diagnosed gallbladder carcinoma clinically were studied with MRI and MRCP,28 of which were proved pathologically. Axial TSE-T2WI,SE-T1WI,TSE-T*2-weighted MRCP were obtained in all 34 patients.10 contrast MRI and 7 fat-suppression sequences were performed. All image sequences were retrospectively analyzed and compared with operative and pathologic findings. The images were accessed for primary lesions, local and regional spread.RESULTS All 34 primary gallbladder cacinoma lesions were detected and typed ,85.7% of which were diagnosed correctly. Diagnostic accuracy for direct liver invasion was 78.6%, for distant liver metastasis was 89.3%, for nodal involvement was 85.8%,and for bile duct invasion was 82.1%.CONCLUSION MRI combined with MRCP in diagnosis of primary gallbladder carcinoma possessed the superiorities of both CT and PTC. Primary lesions can be diagnosed and typed accurately, and accurate depiction and evaluation in local and regional spread were provided.
