Objective: To observe the effect of Vertebro-basilar Artery's systolic blood speed (vsys) of the Vertebro-Basilar Insufficiency (VBI) patients according to puncturing meridian points (fengchi, tianzhu) or jiaji points( C4-6) by Transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD), and probe into the synergic or antagonistic effect between the two group of points. Method: We applied self-control. For 20 cases of low-speed VBI, we treated them with meridian points, jiaji points and both two groups of points respectively and observed the change of vertebro-basilar artery's vsys. For 12 of them treated with both two groups points, we observed the relation between time and effect. For 19 cases of high-speed VBI treated with both two groups points, we observed the change of vertebro-basilar artery's vsys. Result: (1) For 12 cases of low-speed VBI treated with both two groups of points, the improving effect of vsys is best just after puncturing and disappear 1 hour after puncturing. (2) Aiming at different pathologic states of vertebro-basilar artery (low-speed or high-speed), puncturing both two groups of points can regulate them and make them becoming natural. (3) For the improvement of low-speed VBI's vsys, we neither found the synergic effect of the two groups, nor did the antagonistic effect. Conclusion: Acupuncture is an effective treatment for VBI. And for the improvement of low-speed VBI's vsys, there is neither synergic nor antagonistic effect.
