| Objective : To explore the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk factor aggregation. Mothods : Carotid ultrasound was performed in 795 patients who were in hospital. Carotid plague score was calculated to quantify the. extend of CAS using Crouse's methods. Risk factors of atheroslerosis were investigated and patients were divided into three groups according to age. Result: (l)2.1%of the participants have none risk factors,7.7% have any one, 10.9% have any two,79.3% have any three or more. The percent are the hightest in patients with three and more risk factors. (2) The prevalence of carotid artery atherosclerosis and narrowness are 33%,54.2%,75.1% and 5.5%,14%,18.8% respectively in three groups. There is obvious difference in three groups (p<0.001) . (3) When patients have any one, any two, any three or more risk factors, the prevalence of carotid artery atherosclerosis and narrow are 22.2%, 44.8%, 50.7% and 2.8%, 13.2%, 11.5% (p< 0.05) .(4)Carotid artery atherosclerosis is strongly associated with blood pressure, age, and BMI. OR are 2.95,1.04,1.49. Conclusion: according to the results , CVD risk factors and their aggregation at individuals may be widespread in the adult and elder populations of cardiovascular department. Age is responsible to the degree of carotid artery atherosclerosis ; the prevalence of carotid artery atherosclerosis increasedsignificantly with the number of risk factor clustering in individuals. We can clearly see aggregation exert positive effect on atherosclerosis because there is a synergistic action between each risk factor. |
