Objective: To explore the curative effect on integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine (TCM - WM) therapy in treating acute stage of severe primary craniocerebral injury. Methods Sixty-two patients[G lasgow coma scole(GCS)<8 scors, coma time>12 hours ,injury time<3 weeks] were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group(n=31) and the control group (n=31).Based on conventional WM therapy the former group was treated with Longhuxingnao decoction(#),and the latter was treated with WM alone. Results: Statistical analysis of results showed that the markedly effective rate(29.03%),effective rate(38.71%)and total effective rate(83.87%)in treatment group were significantly higher than those(19.35%,16.13% and64.51%,respectively)in control group(all p<0.05).The incidence rate of multiple organ damage, metabolism disorders, and fever etc. in treatment group were obviously lower than those in control group. The GCS scores were improved more rapidly in treatment group than those in control group. While the coma time in form group was significantlyshorter than that in latter group. Conclusion: The Longhuxingnao decoction may inhibited ricious cycle in the histopathological changes of severe primary craniocerebral injury to a certain extent. There are significant curative effects in severe primary craniocerebral injury treated with TCM-WM therapy can shoren the coma tima, reduced disability rate ,improve quality of life on severe primary craniocerebral injury.
