Objective:Through observing effects of different needle retaining time in acupuncture treatment of ischemic apoplexy, we try to explore the relation between time of needle retaining and acupunctural effect on ischemic apoplexy and try to supply a foundation for optimizing the stimulating quantum of acupuncture treatment to stroke. Methods:We selected cases that were diagnosed as ICVD in the acute stage or recover stage through the examination of CT or MRI and according to the degree of the symptom and we randomly divided the cases into three groups. They were the retaining needle for 20-minute group, retaining needle for 40-minute group, and retaining needle for 60-minute group. The patient received the treatment of acupuncture once a day, with ten days as a period of treatment. Pre and post treatment of acupuncture, we gave a mark of the degree of neurologic impairment and checked the TCD and blood rheology pre and post treatment. Results:We made evaluations on the degree of neurologic impairment for 245 cases of the ICVD pre and post treatment. For retaining needle for 20-minute group, retaining needle for 40-minute group and retaining needle for 60-minute group, these 3 groups' effective rate were respectively 51.2%, 68.8%, and 83.1%. Their obvious effects counted 22%, 26.3%, and 34.9% respectively. Selecting randomly 34 cases from the whole, by checking TCD and hemorheology, we found that acupuncture made the Vs and Vm of the brain artery rapid, increased the blood supply of the brain and reduced the blood viscosity. Among the three groups, the retaining needle for 60-minute group got the most effective result, while the retaining needle for 20-minute group and retaining needle for 40-minute groups less. There are significant differences amongthe retaining needle for 60-minute group, retaining needle for 20-minute group and the retaining needle for 40-minute group. Conclusion:The results showed that the effect of acupuncture treatment of the ICVD was related with needle retaining time. According to the treatment, there were effects in decreasing mark of neurological functional deficit, increasing the blood supply of the brain, improving the blood state and promoting the minicirculation. The retaining needle for 60-minute group had the best effect, next was the retaining needle for 40-minute group and the retaining needle for 20-minute group was last.
