| Objective: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of an anti-apoptosis gene, survivin, in ovarian tumor, and to explore the correlation between angiogenesis and the expression of survivin, microvessel density and intratumoral blood flow assessed by CDFI.Methods: CDFI was performed preoperatively to detect the arterial blood flow signals in ovarian tumors of 42 patients, and the lowest resistance index (RI) values were recorded for analysis. The expression of survivin and MVD was examined by using immunohistochemical assay. Results: The expression of survivin in malignant ovarian tumors was greater than that in benign group(P<0.01), but there was no significant difference between its expression in malignant and borderline ovarian tumors(P>0.05). There was no correlation between the expression of survivin and the clinical stage, tissue origin and lymph node metastasis in malignant ovarian tumors(P>0.05). MVD of malignant ovarian tumors was higher than that of benign and borderline groups significantly (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference between benign and borderline ovarian tumors(P>0.05). No correlation between MVD and the clinical stage, tissue origin and lymph node metastasis of malignant ovarian tumors was found(P>0.05). MVD of survivin-positive group was higher than that of survivin-negative group(P<0.05). Of the 42 patients, intratumoral blood flow signals in 5 cases could not be detected by color Doppler. Among the other 37 cases, the RI value in malignant group was lower than that in benign and borderline groups. The difference of RI value between malignant and benign tumors was significant(P<0.01), but there was no significant difference between malignant and borderline tumors(P>0.05). The RI value of survivin-positive group was lower than that of survivin-negative group, however, the difference was not significant(P>0.05). RI value and MVD showed linear negative correlation(r=-0.438, P<0.05).Conclusions: The increase of survivin in malignant ovarian tumors and its correlation with MVD indicate that it may contribute to tumor angiogenesis and the formation of ovarian tumor . Survivin, MVD and RI value can reflect the characteristics of tumor angiogenesis of ovarian tumor in different point of view. The results show survivin may be identified as a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of ovarian tumor, and survivin, MVD, and RI value may provide new parameters to diagnose and evaluate ovarian tumor. |
