Objective: To observe the affection of retina and optic nerve under ocular hypertension and the effect of protection of flunarizine on retina and optic nerve. Methods: BSS was perfused into anterior chamber of rabbit to increase the intraocular pressure to cause retinal ischemia. After administration of flunarizine ,observe F-ERG, the thickness of retina , the number of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) , the optic nerve axons area of optic nerve.Result: The amplitudes of b- wave(P=0.009), the thickness of retina (P=0.009), the number of GRCs (P<0.001)and the optic nerve axons area of optic nerve(P< 0.00l)in ocular hypertension eyes were less than the normal eyes .The flunarizine treated eyes had more than the control,(p=0.005)(P=0.018)(P=0.020)(P=0.045), respectively. Conclusion: The acute ocular hypertension may cause damage of retina and optic nerve ,and flunarinize may be effect-tive in protecting retina and optic nerve in acute ocular hypertension.
