Objective To study and develop a computer software system capable of constructing the methods of bacterial drug susceptibility test and comprehensive evaluation of the results of bacterial drug susceptibility test in vitro in order to increase the accuracy of test results,standardize the testing,and enlarge the volume of the test report. Methods (l)on the basis of the selections and test/report groups of antimicrobial agents for testing recommended by National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS )files,setting up a database of selections and test/report groups of antimicrobial agents .(2) based on the zone diameter and MIC interpretive standars recommended by NCCLS file setting up the interpretive criteria database.(3)collecting data relevant to bacterial natural resistance and acquired resistance phenotypes,organizing them as expert rules,setting up database of results checking.(4)collecting data of pharmacokinetics and therapeutic regimens of different infected sites and bacteria, setting up database of therapeutic regimens.(5) using Visual FoxProS.O as software programming language,writing the programme of every database following in order of antibiotics susceptibility test and writing the programme of the statistic analysis.(6)collecting feedbacks of clinical using for theimprovement of the system. Results the software system can automaticly show the selections of antibmicrobial agents for test, decide whether a antibiotic is susceptible(S),intermediate(I) or resistant(R) category tested by disk diffusion methods or dilution methods,check and interpret the test results on the basis of expert rules,report the antibiotics in groups,suggest the therapeutic regimens, and print a report sheet including all of the messages mentioned above, acquire the statistics of the persent occurence and resistance of bacteria isolated from different patient locations during a period of time.Conclusions It is benefitial to standardize antibiotics susceptibility testing for the system's capacity of automatic selections of antibiotics abiding by NCCLS files,spare time and energy for the system's capacity of automatic decision of the results of tested antibiotics,increase the accuracy of test resuts by checking them with expert rules,instruct clinic to use antibiotics properly for the classification report of antibiotics,clinical feedback considering that the reports have the instructing and consulting value.
