Objective To study the function and relationship of EB virus, FAS and FAS-L in the pathogenesis of histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis. Methods The expression of LMP-1, FAS and FAS-L in specimens of 40 cases of histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis and 10 cases of reactive hyperplastic lymphadenopathy were detected by S-P immunohistochemical staining. Results (1) It's mainly the young females suffered histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (67.5% 27/40). And it often occurs in the neck (90% 36/40) companied with fever and WBC decreased. (2) The positive expressions of LMP-1 mainly lied in the surrounding of necrotizing leision. The expression rate was 40%. And the expression of LMP-1 was negative in reactive hyperplastic lymphadenopathy. There was difference between them (P<0.05). (3) The expression of FAS and FAS-L in the 40 cases of histocytic necrotizing lkymphadenitis mainly lied in the apoptotic foci. And it was negative expression in the 10 cases of reactive hyperplastic lymphadenopathy. (4) There was no relationship between the expression of LMP-l and FAS/FAS-L (P>0.05).Conclusion The patients were mainly young females. And histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis often occurs in the neck. The pathogenisis of histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis was related to EB virus. And FAS-based and T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity was the main reason of the apoptosis of EBV infected cells in histocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis.
