Objective To investigate the expression of Survivin gene mRNA in fetal blood. Methods The expression of Survivin gene mRNA in 50 human fetal blood ,in 40 human cord blood and in 35 health volunteers samples were assessed by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and then we compared with their expression each other. Results Survivin gene expression in human fetal blood were significantly higher than those in human cord blood (68% vs 47.5%, P<0.05).And the signal of surviving mRNA transcript bard compared with β-actin (surviving/β-actin, ODR) in human fetal blood were also higher than those in human cord blood (0.5753±0.2762 vs 0.4437±0.0626, P<0.05).And Survivin gene expression in 35 health volunteers were negative. The relation of Survivin gene expression levels with the gestational age was negative correlation. Conclusion Survivin gene was not a specific anti-apoptotic protein gene of cancer, and also expressed in human fetal blood and human cord blood. The expression of Survivin gene mRNA in human fetal blood were higher than those in human cord blood. We could't find the gene expression of Survivin in health volunteers. The declining of Survivin gene expression levels was accompanied with the increasing of the gestational age. Survivin gene possibly had effect on the process of human fetal growth.
