| Objective: to make sure if the chest deformity is a risk fact of the spontaneous pneumothorax in youth. The detailed study of the pneumothorax in this group was also done by analyze the clinical data.Methods: from the patients with spontaneous pneumothorax hospitalized from October, 2002 to January, 2004, 30 cases which have all clinical data necessary for the retrospective study were included in the study. There are 26 males and 4 females. The range of age is from 16 to 40 years old. 50 people in healthy were selected as a control group which has the same range of age and was picked up in the same period. The chest deformity was expressed by the thorax aspect ratio oftransverse plane, the span in lateral plan to span in post-anterior plane. Student t test and correlation were applied in this clinical study.Results: the Mean thorax aspect ratio (MTAR) of the patients with spontaneous pneumothorax is 0.40, MTAR in healthy people is 0.48, the difference of MTAR between two groups is statistically significant, P<0.001.Conclusions: youth with a flat chest has a higher incidence of spontaneous pneumothorax, especially in males. |
