Objective: Dental Caries,is a multifactorial infectious disease that products chronic, progressively irreversible lesions of teeth tissue. It is one of the most common diseases, which is ranked as the third world's disease following cardiovascular diseases and cancers by the World Heath Organization (WHO). But a lot of medical practices and researches indicate that taking treatment measures can not solve people's all foundational oral heath problems, so WHO set up a series of policy to place emphasis on preventions of dental disease rather than supplying a mainly restorative service. WHO has recommended and stressed the importance and essentiality to collecting epidemiological data concerning dental heath and morbidity among all aged people in global scope, meantime, WHO has definitely regulated the clinical diagnostic criteria regarding to dental caries epidemic survey method. In order to update the knowledge on prevalence in dental caries and associated variables among Adolescents in Taiyuan, asystematic epidemiological survey on caries prevalence has been conducted. The survey is a cross-sectional one that combines questionnaire with clinical examination. It aims to get some important data on caries prevalence status among children in Taiyuan city, help promote and improve the present program on caries prevention. In addition, it will be a persuasive original data, which can be reserved for further research. Methods: The survey is a crdss-sectional study that combines questionnaire with clinical examination. It is a systematic epidemiological survey on caries prevalence among adolenscents in Taiyuan City in 2002, which belongs to stratified cluster random sampling epidemiological survey. In the study, adolescents at the age of 12 and 15 at middle schools in Taiyuan city in 2002 were randomly sampled (n=3087).
