| Objective: To investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP-1) in colorectal cancer and their relationship with angiogenesis. Methods: The expression of MMP-1 in 80 sections of colorectal adenocarcinoma and microvessel density(MVD) in the neoplasms were determined by immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibodies against MMP-1 and CD34.Results:The positive rates of the expression of MMP-1 in 80 sections were 61.25%,respectively.Among those aggresive growth, poor differentiated, with lymphy node or liver metastased, the presence of MMP-1 were significantly higher than their counterparts, also was increased in Dukes C,D stage than DukesA, B stage(p<0.05). However, prognosis of the patients with over MMP-1 expression was significantly worse than those with low MMP-1. MVD was increased according to MMP-1 promoted in the sections.A positive correlation was presented between MVD and MMP-1 expression(r=0.642,p<0.01).Conelutions: MMP-1 can promote colorectal cancer progression and lead to poor prognosis. The expression of MMP-1 was correlated with tumor angiogenesis,it might be one of the important factors in the angiogenesis of colorectal cancer. |
