Object To study the effect and preliminary mechanism of hot and humid environment on v radiation irradiated mice. Methods 1. After being irradiated by V radiation at the dosage of 5.0,7.0 or 9.0 Gy, the mice were treated with hot and humid environment (HHE) or room temperature (RT) respectively. The survival index was then obtained by calculating the death rate within 30 days. 2 .After being irradiated by Co-60 Y radiation at the dosage of median lethal dose in 30 days(LDso/3o, 6.5 Gy) the peripheral blood ,bone marrow cell, spleen and thymus of both RT and HHE groups were examined at the day post-irradiation 1,3,5 ,9 and 15 days respectively. The blood rountine, bone marrow cellularity (BMC), the DNA content of BMC, spleen vs body weight ratio(SVBWR), thymus vs body weight ratio(TVBWR) were analyzed in order to find out the mechanism of changes in HHE. Result 1 Compared to the mice treated with RT, there is a distinguish difference between the death rate, average survival time and the met-survival time when the mice were treated with HHE more than 60min after being irradiated by Y radiation at the dosage of 7.0 Gy (P<0.05), but was not the dosage of 9.0 Gy (P>0.05), 2 The atrophy of spleen and thymus was more serious in the mice treated with RT than the mice treated with HHE, and SVBWR, TVBWR have obvious reduced(P<0.05), 3 The BMC and DNA content of BMC were obviously reduced (PO.05) in the mice treated with HHE. 4 The changes of blood rountine in the HHE group compared to the RT group: peripheral blood white blood cell, lymphocytic cell, red cell and hemoglobin have no obvious difference (P>0.05), but there is a significantly decreased in blood platelet (P<0.05). Conclusions HHE aggravated the radiation damage and increase the death rate. One of the mechanisms may be that HHE make the radiation induced bone marrow damage, hematopoietic destruction, spleen and thymus injury aggravated.
