Purpose: To investigate the effects of exogenous bFGF on stimulating angiogenesis in allogeneic transplanted bladder of rats.Materials and methods: We used the model (consulted Kun wang's rat model(2)) of transplanting the bladder of newborn Sprague-Dawl rats to the greater omentum of 5-week-old Wistar rats without blood vessel anastomosising, the immunosuppressive agent was used. 40 Wistar rats were randomly divided into saline controls and rh-bFGF treated groups after bladder was transplanted without blood vessel anastomosising, each group was divided into dayO, day7, and day!4 groups (10 no-treating newborn SD rat's bladder specimens as dayO group, shared by control and treating groups). The rats of treating groups were intraperitoneally injected with rh-bFGF 500U/d, the rats of control groups were intraperitoneally injected with same volume saline. 10 no-treating newborn SD rat's bladder grafts were harvested on 0-day, 40 Wistar rats were sacrificed at 7 days and 14 days after bladder transplanted operation. By histology and computer image analysis, angiogenesis in bladder grafts were detected-2-quantitatively.Results: To compare with controls groups, the quantity of the neovascularization significantly increased ( P < 0. 05 ) in bladder grafts of treated groups, also the numerical value of average section area and average perimeter and average diameter of blood vessel significantly increased (P < 0. 05) .Conclusions : bFGF might significantly stimulate angiogenesis in transplanted bladder of rats in the early period. It plays a critical role in increasing viability of bladder transplanting without blood vessel anastomosis.
