Ompthe: To study the significance of the expression of vascular endothelial groWthfacor(VEGF), Bcl-2 and microvesse1 density(MVD) during carcinogenesis anddevelopment of oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC). Mdeode: The exPression ofVEGFCD34,Bcl-2 was examined by immunohistochemistry S-P method in 10cases of oral mucosa,l0 cases of oral hyperplaStic tissues,20 cases of oralprecancerous lesions and 76 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma. Results: Noexpression of VEGF was observed in cases of oral normal mucosa, hyPmplastictissues and precancerous Lesions. There was no significant differnce in theexpression of VEGF in different TNM stages and pathologic grades, bu, theexPression degre Of VEGF in IV of TN'M in OSCC was higher than in the otherstages. There were both highIy significant correlation between the eapression ofVEGF, W and lymph node metastases of OSCC (p<0.0l). MVD is scanty in casesof oral normal mucosa, hyPerplaStic tissues and Precancerous Lesions. MVD inOSCC is significant higher than others. The mean MVD in cases of Ill, IV 'of TN'M inOSCC was significantly higher than that in cases of I, II (P<0.05). MVD in OSCCdiffered significantly in different pathologic grades (p<0.05).the lowwer pathologicgrades, the higher the mean MVD. No exPression of Bcl-2 was observed in cases oforai normal mucosa, hyPerplaStic tissues, and there is a litter and light exPression ofBcl-2 in Precancerous Lesions. there was no significant difference in the exPressionof Bcl-2 in in cases of oral normal mucosa, hyperplastic tissues and PrecanceroweLesions (p>0.05). But, there was significant difference in the exPression of Bcl-2between OSCC and others. There was no significant ditheence in the exPression ofBcl-2 in different TNM stages and lymph node metastasis of OSCC. There was significant difference in the expression of Bcl-2 between cases of high and midde-low pathologic grades . The mean MVD in cases of high VEGF expression was significantly higher than that in cases of low VEGF expression. The expression of Bcl-2 in cases of high VEGF expression was significantly higher than that in cases of low VEGF expression. Conclusion: The expression of VEGF, MVD and Bcl-2 plays an important role during carcinogenesis and the development of OSCC. It indicates the change of MVD may resulted from the change of VEGF in OSCC. There is a significant positive correlation between the expressions of VEGF and Bcl-2. Comprehensive analysisof above, expression of VEGF , Bcl-2 and MVD can foresee the prognosis in these patients and assist the diagnosis of OSCC.
