Objective: To investigate the Anti-Lipid Peroxidation Impairment Effect of Zuoguijiangtangling (ZGJTL) Decoction on experimental diabetes among rats, and to explore the possible therapeutic mechanisms for this lesion. Methods: The DM rats model was reproduced by abdominal injection with streptozotocin (STZ)40mg/kg and feeding with high calorie animal feeds. Then the rats with experimental DM were divided into treating group and 2 controlling groups randomly. The experimental group was treated with ZGJTL decoction and the controlling groups were treated with YuXanXiao or DaMeiKang respectively. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), superoxide dismutase (SOD)and the content of malonic aldehyde (MAD) in kidney tissue and blood were detected by different methods respectively during the process of experiment. Results: ZGJTL had significant effects on the induced MD among model rats as follows: decreasing obviously the content of MDA in blood serum, as a result ofobviously increasing the activity of SOD in kidney tissue and red blood cell (RBC), and increasing the activity of GSH-PX in the blood and kidney tissue. The differences of all the findings observed in the experiments were very significant when compared between the experiment group and controlling groups( /)<0.05P<0.01 ). Conclusions: The ZGJTL prescription formulated on the base of the principle of enriching Yin and Yang is very effective on MD, and it holds obvious therapeuticeffect of anti-lipid peroxidation impairment on experimental diabetes for model rats.
