Objective:To study the changes of ultrastructure induced by epidural blockade using different concentration of alcohol and phenol glycerin.Methods:20 rabbits were randomly assigned into four groups. Group A was control group, recieved a epidural injection of normal saline.Group B recieved a epidural injection of 75% of alcohol. Group C recieved a epidural injection of dehydrated alcohol and group D 10% of phenol glycerin. The speed of injection was 0.5ml/min.After the puncture and injection, the rabbits were raised under same condition for 7 days. Then a perfused fixation was performed and the spinal nerve and the roots of spinal nerve were taken and observed and shot using a JEM1200EX transmission electro-microscope.Results:Mitochondrials of spinal nerve were denaturalized, microfibril and microtubule of axonemes were vanished, lipofuscin granules were increased,non-myelinated fibrinolysis was occured and myelinated fibre root of spinal nerve were foundeddemyelinated, and hypertrophy of Schwann cells was observed in thegroup of 75% of alcohol. The mitochondrials were decreased in axons ofmyelinated fibre, vacuoles were observed in mitochondrials ofnon-myelinated fibre, and no significant changes was observed in the root of spinal nerve. No significant changes was observed in spinal nerve and root of spinal nerve in 10% of phenol glycerin group. Conclusion:the best dood concentration of drug for NNB is 75% of alcohol, and theefect of epidural NNB is undefined,...
